Olympic Run Up

It has been awhile since I last blogged but a lot has happened since then. I've had ups and downs lefts and rights and generally pulled in all direction's.

My first chance to qualify this year didn't go particularly how I wanted
it to go as the obvious outcome was I didn't hit my time. I've had a
few competitions and at Irish trails I swam a new Irish senior record
which I was happy about but the swim was too forced I went out wanting
it too much
and paid the price in the last 20m. I hav...

European short course December

Having come straight from Eindhoven to Poland finally arriving at the hotel was a relief. It was a long day of travelling and we were all exhausted but when we saw our hotel had a go-karting track we all immediately livened up.

I had been looking forward to race at this meet for weeks and weeks and
it was finally here I wasn't going to let the opportunity pass. I have
always raced well at this meet and finally wanted to make my mark
properly last year I finished 5th in the 400freestyle...

Dutch Open Meet

After a long successful cycle of racing and training the 2 weeks I had been waiting for had arrived I flew to Eindhoven from London and met the rest of the team at the hotel. It was great being back in Eindhoven I have always really enjoyed racing there so after a quick loosen in the pool I was feeling pretty good. I had another day of loose swimming before the meet started it was quite a high profile meet with a lot of foreign swimmers competing which immediately made it more exciting.

Lincoln Vulcan’s meet 15th October

It was the first meet of the season and I hadn't raced long course since world championships let alone my main event which is 200 backstroke. It was only a day meet in Sheffield so I just entered the one event as I wanted to swim well in it.

I got the train up at lunch time after spending a relaxed morning with
ben and shortly after I was at the pool warming up for my event. I was
quite looking forward to racing as training had been going really well
and myself and my coach had changed...

Getting back into training!

After 10 days out of the pool and a quick trip back home to Northern Ireland it was time to get back into the pool in Loughborough. Not everyone was back in Loughborough training so I was able to get in with Kevin Renshaw for a while till my coach Ian got back. It was really good during pre-season we did lots of different activities like rock climbing and cycling and I was enjoying getting fit again.

A weeks later we had a team trip to Tenerife which was really good but
very hard. There was ...

Kinetica

In sport it's the little changes that make the biggest differences, so
when I heard I was able to receive Kinetica products I was really keen
to get on board. I've never used protein supplements before but after
a couple of months of using whey protein after gym and swim training
along with all the other great products I've started to notice an
overall difference. As I am in the gym lifting twice a week,
recovering quickly is key.

Taking protein after this means I can get
back into the...

After a short train journey to Heathrow from Loughborough to meet the
rest of the team on the 9th July I found myself sitting on the plane
to Kuala Lumpur. The past 6 weeks have gone so quickly and now I find
myself getting to ready to race in less than 9 days. It wasn’t long
ago I had just qualified for this meet and now I'm getting ready to
race them. However I have had a really good training cycle, free of
major illnesses or injuries which has always been a struggle for me.

Lactobin

I recieved a sample of Lactobin after the Irish nationals from my agent Derry McVeigh of Silver Hatch Sports on behalf of the company.

I have been taking the product once a day and after only a couple of weeks I believe I'm seeing a benefit already. I am, unfortunately very prone to getting any sort of viral infections and have been for years. With a weak immune system it's hard to fight off illnesses and when I do get ill I find it hard to shake them off!

It's never ideal getting il...

Training had been going great, my skinfolds were the lowest they had ever been thanks to my new friend running. I was I feeling great thanks to Kinetica supplements and juice plus products. Everything couldn't have been better in the lead up to the event, I've never been a huge fan of taper so adjusting my training accordingly was something I was still trying to work on. However I was looking forward to racing.I flew to Dublin on late Wednesday evening and arrived at the hotel atabout 10.30pm so...

After an early start on Saturday morning I was at the airport and on the plane home. My dad picked me up at the airport and it was lovely to be home and see my family. I even had some famous soda bread with bacon waiting for me when I got in. I didn't have the IN! Magazine photo shoot till Sunday so I got to chill out and home on Saturday and catch up with my best friend Kelly in the evening.

On Sunday morning I got dropped at IN! Magazine headquarters in holywood where I met the other 3 athl...
