Swim Camp with The Leicester Penguins

Published by Melanie Nocher

I got picked up at 7.15am after training by the head coach Nigel who had also organized the swim camp to be taken to the pool. I arrived at 7.45am and got introduced to the swimmers who ranged from 8-14 yrs old where I took a general blood flow warm-up. The kids were great they were all really enthusiastic and keen to get in the water. They did a quick warm up in the water and then it was time forme to get involved they had so much fun guessing all the different answers to the questions Nigel was asking and it reminded me of when I was younger in the same situation.

I tried to make sure I gave all the kids at least one pointer each which they could improve on but some had very good technique anyway so less improvement was needed. After a few demonstrations and trying to correct them verbally I surprised them by getting into the pool and lying on the bottom of the pool so I could see them all better on their technique under the water. They were comparing me to an underwater camera which I think some of them were a bit scared of!

It was a great morning which them and I hope they all took something away from it we even had time for a few sprints at the end where I even got beaten by one of the boys...I've never been good at sprinting but I was going hard but he managed to pip me to the post!

After the session I went and had a few pictures taken with the kids and Nigel did a lucky dip for the three hats I brought to see who got them. I hope they all enjoyed themselves as much as I did and I would like to thank everyone who turned up to the swim session and especially Nigel for organising it.
