Lincoln Vulcan’s meet 15th October
It was the first meet of the season and I hadn't raced long course since world championships let alone my main event which is 200 backstroke. It was only a day meet in Sheffield so I just entered the one event as I wanted to swim well in it.

I got the train up at lunch time after spending a relaxed morning with ben and shortly after I was at the pool warming up for my event. I was quite looking forward to racing as training had been going really well and myself and my coach had changed our training to focus more on the 200 backstroke.

I felt pretty sore in the warm up as I'd had a hard weights session the day before however I wasn't going to focus on that too much. I was in the last heat of the event and when I started I found myself getting into the race quite comfortably I was told to focus on my turns and underwater work so that's what I did.

I quickly found myself in the led and on the last 50m I didn't seem to be in as much pain as usual I was just going for a solid swim so when I touched in a 2.13.9 only 2 seconds off my personal best I was more than happy with the result. It's put me in a good mindset to race in Eindhoven at the end of November to get even closer to the Olympic “A” standard. I'm looking forward to getting back into racing and producing some fast swims.
